Image of the fishing boat Gertrude L. Thebaud sailing in Lake Michigan at Chicago, Illinois, September 2, 1933. Designed by Frank Paine, the Thebaud became the last schooner to ever sail to Gloucester, Massachusetts. She was launched on March 17, 1930. Under the direction of Captain Ben Pine, the Thebaud made and appearance at Chicago's Century of Progress International Exposition world's fair in 1933 as an official exhibit of the commonwealth of Massachusetts. Arriving in Chicago on August 12, 1933, it participated in the yachting regatta on August 26 which took place off of Navy Pier, and which was sponsored by the Chicago Daily News. She was also able to conduct speed tests against her rival the Bluenose on September 17 in Lake Michigan.
